Dr. Michelle Martin (Mickey) is a freelance percussionist, recording artist, clinician, arranger, and educator. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. The Master of Music, the Bachelor of Music Education, and the Bachelor of Music (Performance) degrees are held from Central Michigan University. She has taught at The University of Texas at Austin and Albany State University.
As a former long-time student of Robert Hohner and member of the Robert Hohner Percussion Ensemble (artist in residence group at CMU), Dr. Martin appears on four internationally released CDs on the DMP and Albany record labels -- World Music Tour, Percussion Music of David Maslanka, and Third Wind as well as Stained Glass: Music for Percussion by David Gillingham (C. Alan Publications).
Dr. Martin has recently performed with the Legacy Percussion Orchestra at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho. Dr. Martin has also performed with the Graz Symphony Orchestra in Austria, Abilene Symphony Orchestra, American Wind Symphony, West Shore Symphony Orchestra, Midland Symphony Orchestra, Bayview Theatre Association, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Martin has also performed with artists such as David Zerbe, David Steffens, Mark Ford, Thomas Burritt, Andy Narell, Alex Acuna, Ken Philmore, Thomas Kozumplik, and Lorne Watson.
Dr. Martin teaches all of the percussion instruments and is an accomplished performer on marimba, timpani, snare drum/multi-percussion, steeldrums/jazz performance, and orchestra repertoire.
Dr. Martin has also completed several arrangements for percussion ensemble which include works by Bartok, Debussy, Saint-Saens, Granados, and Stravinsky.
